Fire bans
Be aware of fire bans and the risk of fire. On this page you can read about what to bear in mind before lighting a fire or barbecuing in the forest or fields.
Från och med den 12 maj och tills vidare råder eldningsförbud i Blekinge län. Vid ett eldningsförbud är det förbjudet att elda eller grilla i skog och mark.
From 12 May 2023 and until further notice it is not allowed to light fires or barbecue in nature in Blekinge County.
Ab dem 12. Mai 2023 und bis auf Weiteres ist es verboten, im Wald oder in der freien Natur in der ganzen Provinz Blekinge ein Lagerfeuer zu machen und zu grillen.
There are two types of fire bans
Blekinge County Administrative board is responsible for information about fire bans in effect in the county’s municipalities. We provide information about the area to which the rules apply, what is prohibited or permitted, and the date on which the ban goes into effect. You can read about fire bans on our website, in local newspapers and on the radio, at campsites, in tourist information offices, or via the municipal rescue services.
A fire ban can be imposed to prevent forest fires if the fire risk is high in a particular area.
A municipality or a county administrative board can impose two different types of fire bans: fire ban or stringent fire ban.
When a fire ban has been issued, it is forbidden to light open fires and to grill outside of built up areas with solid fuel.
The fire ban prohibits lighting of fires and barbecuing in the forest and on open land, e.g. outside areas of adjacent houses and buildings or areas separated from such structures by only a road, street, or parkland using solid fuel, such as charcoal and wood.
Lighting fires in nature reserves is sometimes prohibited regardless of active fire bans. The rules are posted on notice boards in the area.
Barbecuing may be allowed
You are allowed to light a fire or grill in your garden or allotment, in inner court yards and yards connected to blocks of flats, as well as in parks and certain campgrounds. Cooking and grilling in a designated grilling area in the nature or the use of a camping stove is also permitted.
It is always your responsibility to find out whether lighting a fire or having a barbecue is allowed in your particular location. If you violate a fire ban you may be fined.
When a stringent fire ban has been issued, it is forbidden to light open fires and to grill within as well as outside of built up areas with solid fuel.
The stringent fire ban prohibits lighting of fires and barbecuing using solid fuel, such as charcoal and wood.
Barbecuing may be allowed
Cooking in a designated area in the nature is only permitted when using liquid fuel, such as gas. You are allowed to grill in your garden or allotment, in inner court yards and yards connected to blocks of flats, as well as in parks and certain campgrounds provided it is safely organised.
It is always your responsibility to find out whether lighting a fire or having a barbecue is allowed in your particular location. If you violate a fire ban you may be fined.
You should of course always be careful when you build open fires and grill in nature, even if there is no fire ban in effect. This is especially important in the spring and summer, when the forest can be very dry. Always find out if you are allowed to light open fires and grill before you light a fire. It is best to grill in designated grilling areas.
Be sure you have water with which to extinguish the fire. If the fire risk is high, find an alternative to open fires or grilling. Bring a packed lunch on your excursion and pack extra clothing to keep you warm. If you still choose to light an open fire, be careful. If you start a forest fire, you will be held responsible. Never toss cigarette butts on the ground in the forest and on open land. The embers can ignite a fire.
