Caring for, exhibiting, treating or transporting animals
The County Administrative Board oversees animal welfare and animal transport. We issue permits for various animal-related activities and support animal healthcare professionals. If you keep animals you may need to notify us, for example if you run a visitor activity involving animals.

Are you a beekeeper, or are you starting or taking over a beekeeping business? You need to register your it and its location to the County Administrative Board. If you suspect that your bees have contracted any infectious diseases, you must report it to your local bee inspector. If you have had to get rid of sick bees, you might be entitled to compensation.

If you want to keep a large number of companion animals or horses, you may need to apply for a permit from the County Administrative Board. If you run a professional activity involving companion animals or horses, you always need a permit.

If you operate a premises where animals are displayed to the public, you must apply for a permit from the County Administrative Board. If you are going to exhibit wild animals, you will need additional permits. If you run a visitor activity with more than three visits per year, you must notify us.

Transport of animals and animal by-products
When animals are transported, they must be transported in a safe manner and the animals must not be subjected to injury or suffering during transport. The County Administrative Board checks animal transport, from transporting pets in cars, to transportation of animal by-products. We also inspect transport vehicles that are going to transport animals.

Are you going to build or rebuild a stable? You may need to apply for a preliminary inspection. The County Administrative Board then examines your planned construction to see if it meets the requirements for animal welfare and animal husbandry.
Apply for a veterinarian for competitions
If you arrange certain types of competitions where animals are involved, then you are responsible for ensuring that there is a competition veterinarian present. You apply for a competition veterinarian through the Swedish Board of Agriculture.
