Management of the County Administrative Board
include the Governor and the Deputy Governor and preside in Gothenburg.
The Governor´s Staff
advise the Governor and the Deputy Governor, providing analyses and internal audits and is responsible for the development of cross-sectoral policies. It also handles project management, operational planning and annual reports. The staff also assist county management in international contacts and official duties.
The Kosterhavet Delegation
manages the Kosterhavet National Park and approves operational plan and budget.
The Environmental Licensing Authority
rules on applications for permits for environmentally hazardous activities. It also rules on conditions for activities in accordance with the Swedish Environmental Code.
The Wildlife Management Delegation
sets comprehensive guidelines for the management of game in the County, and the management of the elk strain and, if applicable, of the deer and wild boar strains. The Wildlife Management Delegation approves the County Wildlife Management Plan, including proposed minimal levels for bear and lynx, and directions for the occurrence of wolf.
The Skagerrak and Kattegat Water District Authority
coordinates and promotes water protection activities, and implements the EU framework directive. It encompasses the area between the source of the Göta River in Härjedalen and Norway and the rivers in northern Skåne.
The Rural Department
handles the EU’s agricultural support and provides training in environment care. It also promotes women’s entrepreneurship, employment and quality of life in rural areas and manages the EU’s rural programme.
The Cultural Heritage Department
protects the cultural heritage in spatial planning. It also decides on historic monuments and sites; and contributes to the protection of the cultural heritage. In addition it preserves cultural heritage sites.
The Nature Conservation Department
promotes outdoor activities and biological diversity, works with protection and care of valuable natural areas, and the management of natural resources. It also examines and controls natural protection cases in accordance with the Environment Code.
The Emergency Management Department
works for a strong, safe society and develops the capacity to manage crises. It also controls and supervises according to the Civil Protection Act.
The Spatial Planning Department
promotes a good living conditions for the people of the county. It works for a farsighted sustainable spatial planning and distributes support to the residential sector and produces a knowledge base for planning.
The Social Sustainability Department
supports stakeholders to achieve gender and social equality in public services, develops and follows up the reception of newly-arrived refugees, and supports efforts to counteract violence in relationships. It also supervises alcohol licensees and the sale of beer and tobacco.
The Environmental Protection Department
works for the ecologically sustainable development of the living environment based on the environmental objectives. It assesses and supervises environmentally hazardous facilities, and advises the municipalities on environment and health protection. It also handles cases of polluted areas and works to prevent chemical accidents.
The Water Protection Department
protects, maintains and restores the county’s water and fishery resources, based on the environmental objectives, the Environment Code and the Water Quality Ordinance. It works with water management, fisheries management and the fishing industry. In addition it promotes healthy, living waters throughout the county in collaboration with stakeholders.
The Legal Department
tries appeals against decisions on building permits, detailed plans and decisions in accordance with the Environment Code. It rules on local traffic regulations and grants permits for e.g. hunting and camera surveillance. It also manages general elections and supervises e.g. chief guardians, foundations and security companies.
The Veterinary Department
has a regional responsibility for supervision and control in accordance with the Food Act and is operationally responsible for public animal protection. It also handles infectious disease control and general veterinary matters.
