The work of the County Administrative Board


For the development of the county and the benefit of the inhabitants
 
In its role as the regional representative of the Swedish government, the County Administrative Board has a wide variety of tasks. The County Administrative Board co-ordinates the work of various sectors in the County which entails an active role in most of the planning and regional development work. The wide scope of responsibilities gives the County Administrative Boards a unique position among Swedish authorities.

Wide scope
Ever since the 1600s, the County Administrative Board has enjoyed a prominent role in Swedish democracy. Jämtland County Administrative Board was instigated when the County was formed in 1810 and is today a modern authority led by County Governor Maggi Mikaelsson with highly qualified staff specialized in a wide range of areas.
 
The responsibilities of the County Administrative Board can be summarized in three main areas:

  • to promote the development of the County
  • to work for the implementation in the County of the national political objectives
  • to act the administrative authority  


The Board of Directors is the highest decision-making body of the County Administrative Board and its 12 members are appointed by the Government. The County Governor is the chairperson of the board and is also appointed by the Government.

The management team of Jämtland County Administrative Board includes County Governor Maggi Mikaelsson and County Advisor Uno Svaleryd. The administrative management includes the County Governor’s secretary, the County Advisor’s secretary, the head of information and the selection controller.  

Jämtland County Administrative Board is organized in seven departments and one administrative group:

  • Administration
  • EU structural funds
  • Regional economy and business development
  • Nature, culture and reindeer farming
  • The environment and fishing
  • Agriculture Government services 

 

The work of the departments is led by a head of department and the departments are divided into operations areas, so-called functions. In addition to the departments above, the Jämtland County Administrative Board also includes an Environment Inspection Committee and a Structural Funds Committee.
 
The different functions within the departments are:
