In the County of Gävleborg there are about 130 nature reserves. Enchanting forests,  beautiful barren coasts, bird lakes, viewpoints and wilderness.

Regulations in the reserves

In all nature reserves and other protected areas there are regulations that determine what you may or may not do in the reserve. The County Administrative Board can give dispensation from these regulations.

Establishing a reserve

It is the County Administrative Board that establishes most of the reserves, even if the municipalities also have the possibility.

Nature reserves can be established on both private and government property. Most often the landowner receives compensation since the nature reserve compromises being able to use it for forestry.
